This routine puts feeding, water, walks or cleaning and a quick check on your animal into a fixed order. Adapt the steps to your dog, cat or small pet.

The template

Steps

  1. Give food in the usual amount.
  2. Rinse the water bowl and fill it with fresh water.
  3. Take the dog out or clean the litter box, cage or tank.
  4. Take a few minutes to play or spend time close together.
  5. Briefly check eating, coat, eyes and behaviour.
  6. Note anything unusual and ask your vet's practice if you are worried.
  7. Check whether food and litter will last the week.
